Our Story

Wheat Montana was founded back in the early 1990s by the Folkvord family, who had been farming wheat in the beautiful rolling hills just north of Three Forks, Montana. They wanted to share the opportunity to enjoy the same fresh flour and breads their family enjoyed with other Montanans, so they added a mill and small bakery in nearby Bozeman to their full-time family farming operation.

The reputation and popularity of Wheat Montana’s bread and flour continued to grow, so they soon opened a larger mill and bakery out in Three Forks, along with a deli, which featured made-to-order sandwiches, cookies, and now-legendary cinnamon rolls — all baked fresh from their own wheat, which inspired their tagline “from our farm to your table.”

The business continued to expand, to include cereal, seeds, and pancake mixes, and the company began shipping something close to 150 different products to stores, restaurants, and other outlets all across the country. More Wheat Montana delis were opened in various locations around the state, and the company soon came to employ over 150 people, most of whom live in Montana.

Today, Wheat Montana — along with recently-acquired sister company Stone Ground Bakery in Utah — is owned by Tilia Holdings Company, based in Chicago, Illinois, who continues to strive to offer high-quality, delicious products to customers throughout the United States. Together, Wheat Montana and Stone Ground Bakery are proud to represent the Best of the West™.
